The German company has steadily diversified its capabilities as an online payments service provider, adding in-house processing and issuing to its menu. By partnering with
major global processors, Wirecard has ex- panded its role as a prepaid solutions provider in the European market. Recent key partner- ships include mobile money/prepaid programs with Vodafone and Telefónica Germany.
In the past three years, Wirecard’s card-issuing operation—the fruit of its 2011 Newcastle Building Society prepaid portfolio acquisition, netting 1.5 million new prepaid cards—has helped it become an issuing powerhouse, securing deals across Europe with exciting programs that marry mobile commerce and prepaid. Wirecard claims to be the largest prepaid issuer in Europe by transaction value.
Wirecard also handles back-office and com- pliance services for versatile approaches to physical, virtual and contactless payments that increasingly extend to consumers’ mobile devices.
