of InnovAtIon
This year marked Paybefore’s 10th anniversary of Pay Awards. In March, we celebrated 64 pioneers, innovators and rising stars that are helping forge a new path in prepaid, retail and
loyalty, and payments technology.
It was a blockbuster year in terms of nominations received and countries represented—U.S., South Africa, Mexico, Italy, the U.K. and Germany—and a remarkable 450 percent increase in online votes for Best-in-Category winners. All in,116,454 online votes were cast. The results were aggregated and combined with our judging panel picks to determine the 21 Best-in-Category winners you’ll read about in this special edition of Pay Magazine.
Thank you to our expert judging panels. Prepaid judges were Robert Courtneidge, Locke Lord; and Debra Wolhrab, Wolhrab Consulting. Retail and Loyalty judges were Paybefore Editor-in-Chief
Loraine DeBonis and Tom Neri, GfK Custom Research. Payments Technology judges were Samee Zafar, Edgar, Dunn & Company; and Steve McLaughlin,
FT Partners. Thanks also to our panel of past Industry Achievement winners—Jeremy Kuiper, The Bancorp; Brad Hanson, Meta Payment Systems; and Ron Hynes, UniRush—who helped select the winner for our prestigious individual honor of the 2016 Industry Achievement Award.
“For a decade, we have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to honoring those whose creativity and dedication are pushing the industry forward—and giving more people than ever the bene ts that come with access to electronic payments,” said DeBonis. “From Silicon Valley startups to established power- houses, the winners in this year’s competition re ect a dynamic industry with no sign of slowing its pace of expansion and change.”
