In the midst of the Great Recession of 2008–2009, Matt Rosenburg believed prepaid products would become a bridge to help consumers
reestablish con dence in the bank- ing and nancial services industry. That belief proved prophetic. As head of technology operations and architecture for Green Dot from 2008 to 2013, the company saw what he calls “explosive” volume and revenue growth as consumer awareness and adoption of pre- paid grew.
When asked by longtime colleague and friend Will Sowell—who’d taken an executive leadership role with push payments specialist Ingo Money—to move to Atlanta to head Ingo’s technology depart- ment, Rosenburg made the cross- country trek with an eye toward the future of nancial services.
Since joining Ingo Money as chief information o cer, Rosenburg has overseen the development and launch of products, including the Ingo Money Mobile Check Cashing Software Development Kit (SDK), which provides banks, prepaid card issuers, mobile wallet providers and mobile POS providers with the ability to embed Ingo Money’s mobile check cashing capabilities into their native mobile applica- tions. The SDK helped drive wide- spread take-up of the Ingo mobile check cashing service. However, Rosenburg takes pride in more than just the commercial success.
Money Matters
“I am proud of the technology,
of course, and its enthusiastic adoption by our clients and part- ners. But I’m also proud of the fact that this technology makes a positive impact on millions of people who bene t from having fast and reliable access to their money,” he says. “We now live
in a real-time economy and, increasingly, people need and expect to have the same kind of secure, reliable and immediate access to the money they receive.”

his rise as a Top Tech Guru to mentors, including Sowell, who now serves as president and chief operating o cer of Ingo Money. “Will and I share an energy, enthusiasm and demand for excellence,” Rosenburg says. “I owe much of my professional success to Will.”
Rosenburg also cites Robert Winchester as an early mentor at
What technologies Will change payments most?
“In the near term, I believe we’ll witness
a rapid transformation in the way businesses and governments pay people, and I couldn’t be more excited about our role in this transformation. Longer term, broad commercialization
of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether and their corresponding ledger systems like blockchain show real promise for improving nancial system security
with nearly instantaneous settlement and reconciliation.”
investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, where Rosenburg rst designed systems architecture for nancial modeling. “Robert instilled in me the discipline required to solve complex technical and business problems,” he recalls.
Finally, Rosenburg considers pay- ments pioneer and Money20/20 founder Anil Aggarwal to be one
of the industry’s top tech minds for his ability to anticipate and execute on trends, along with his capacity to rally the ntech sector.
Though he’s seen plenty of tech- nological advancement and in- dustry changes throughout his career, Rosenburg has relied on
a few consistent principles for guidance. “Put forth the e ort, maintain a high level of energy, be positive and coachable, be prepared and on time, and always demonstrate a passion for what you do,” he says.
